About:
My name is Mary and I was born and raised in Miami, FL. I attended New World School of the Arts in Miami and then moved to Kansas City, MO where I graduated with a BFA in fiber/textiles from the Kansas City Art Institute. I worked at a wonderful high-end clothing shop, where I further developed my skills in pattern drafting, garment cutting, clothing construction, fittings and alterations and a meticulous attention to detail. I also acquired a love and appreciation for vintage Japanese textiles and unique fabrics and objects from all over the world.
Living in Miami again, I realize how much my visual and artistic aesthetics are influenced by my surroundings. I love the beautiful blues of the ocean and the lush green and vibrant colors that make Miami so special to me. Now that I am back where I belong, I feel confident to finally listen to my artistic voice and create beautiful objects that are true to my sensibilities.
In my textiles, paintings, and ink drawings, I have always enjoyed having something existing to start with and manipulating it to create something new. I love colors, rows of colors, stacks of organized colors…visual organization in the madness of vibrant colors. I tend to work in series so that I can have groupings of colors and textures to display.
I decided to use handbags as my medium one summer when I was out looking for a purse and I couldn’t find one that suited me anywhere. I figured that I would just have to make one myself. The problem was that I couldn’t stop with just one, I needed to make more, I needed to combine more colors and experiment with mixing patterns and colors that might seem odd at first but make sense as a whole. It was the perfect culmination of my art and obsessions.
Since I didn’t have a full dyeing and printing facility here in Miami to create my own fabric, I had free reign to fuel my passion and addiction for collecting beautiful fabric from all over the world. I’m particularly drawn to vintage Japanese kimono silk and bold patterned cottons.
All of my handbags and accessories are one-of-a-kind. This is a challenge I have chosen, as an artist, to never repeat a combination of fabrics. I also like to work in odd numbers, especially the number three. It’s fun for me and keeps me on my toes artistically and it offers the customer an item that no one else will ever have.
Please note that due to the handmade nature of the handbags, irregularities may occur - giving each piece its beauty and character. Each item is handmade by me. I draft the patterns, cut, piece, and stitch the fabric, construct the handbags and accessories, take the photographs, etc. I love being a part of the whole process.
All of my handbags and accessories are made in a smoke-free home. However, I do have three sweet cats named Honey, Sushi and Joey who like to supervise all of my work in studio and keep me company.
If you are interested in a custom order, I would be very happy to work with you and see what we can arrange. You can convo me or email me at: mary @ maryjmaalouf . com.

Becky Cosmetic Case
Check them out here!!
$25
Description:
The Becky pouch is a cute and stylish case to carry your makeup or any thing you want to keep safe and secure in your handbag such as sunglasses, cell phone, iPod, digital camera, keys, cosmetics, brushes, pencils etc. It has side straps for easy carrying and also comes with a matching pocket mirror and a custom zipper pull.
I interfaced the cotton fabric and stitched it to add visual texture. I then added an additional layer of light weight fleece to give it extra padding. The interior seams are all finished with a coordinating bias tape and the seams are triple stitched creating a sturdy and durable textile.
The measurements are approximately:
4 1/4" H
7 1/2" L
2 1/4" W
The pocket mirror is 2 1/4” in diameter.
How cute is this cosmetic bag?!
The shape is simple and dainty, yet it is big enough to hold a fair amount of items.
This print is so pretty and I love the colors (I especially like the inside purple lining)!
I really like this fabric. Each bag comes with a matching travel-mirror. Too cute!!

Christie Clutch
Check them out here!!
$55
Description:
The Christie is a clutch perfect for your essentials on a night out. It has a matching zippered pouch to keep money and credit cards as well as a matching pocket mirror.
This fabric was stitched to add visual texture and was then interfaced and fused with canvas to create a sturdy and durable textile.
The measurements of the clutch are approximately:
4 ¾” H x 9 ¾” L The profile is slim
The matching zippered pouch measures 3” H x 4 ¾” L
The pocket mirror is 2 ¼” in diameter
This is my favorite piece! I just love the bright fabric and the contrast of the inside lining.
This clutch is so unique in its design.
It folds down which not only creates a cool shape, but also keeps everything protected inside the bag.
I really appreciate how well-made Mary's bags are!
They are so high quality and I definitely recommend these!!!
